Crew Chief / Driller
The Geotechnical Driller / Crew Chief is responsible for leading a crew in geotechnical drilling operations, ensuring the successful completion of projects. This position requires managing all drilling activities, overseeing crew members, and ensuring the collection of soil, and rock samples. The role also emphasizes safety, equipment maintenance, and compliance with environmental regulations.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 2 years of experience in drilling industry with at least 1 year of experience operating a variety of rigs (i.e. Sonic, Rotary, Auger, DPT, CPT)
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record is required
- CDL – Class A license is required
- Ability to lead a drilling crew and maintain a safe working environment.
- General aptitude for identifying and resolving complex technical problems in the field, utilizing critical thinking and logical reasoning
- Collaborative spirit to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to handle physical demands, such as lifting and carrying equipment, working in various weather conditions, and traveling to different locations.
- Ability to pass random drug and alcohol screen
Responsibilities and Duties
- Operate and maintain drilling rig and related equipment to complete drilling projects as per engineering and geotechnical specifications.
- Lead and supervise the drilling crew, ensuring all team members are trained, follow safety protocols, and efficiently perform their duties.
- Plan and execute geotechnical drilling operations, including site setup, borehole drilling, and sample collection.
- Coordinate with project managers and engineers to ensure that drilling meets project requirements and technical specifications.
- Collect, log, and preserve soil and rock samples, ensuring they are properly labeled and documented.
- Maintain and troubleshoot drilling rigs, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Oversee safety measures at the worksite, ensuring all operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Complete and submit daily field reports, logs, and project documentation.
- Liaise with clients and contractors on-site, providing updates on project status and addressing any concerns.
- Monitor borehole stability, groundwater conditions, and subsurface materials during drilling operations.
- Manage inventory and order necessary tools, materials, and equipment for field operations.
- Follow safety guidelines and ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
